Batman: Joker’s Hat

Worn By: Jack Nicholson
Year: 1989
Value: $42,000*

While contemporary viewers might be more familiar with Heath Ledger’s intense, sociopathic joker (or Joaquin Phoenix’s brooding, troubled version of the character), we can’t forget Jack Nicholson’s contribution to the franchise. He played a funny, malevolent version of the classic comic book villain in The Batman.

Nicholson wore this purple top hat in several scenes throughout the film. The fedora was made of purple felt, and it was made by Dobbs, a New York City hat-maker. The fedora had white make-up marks in it from Nicholson’s pasty-faced joker, as the make-up melted onto the hat under the hot Pinewood Studios stage lights.
